The new Company that has been established to oversee the funding, installation and operation of the proposed scheme is a Community Benefit Society. Goring and Streatley Community Energy Ltd. has been set up in the form of an Industrial and Provident Society, specifically a Community Benefit Society. This type of company often represents the ethos of a community “doing it for themselves”. The organisation is owned and run democratically by its members who have a common interest in sustainability. It is intended the Goring and Streatley Hydro Power Project harnesses the natural energy of the Thames River to create sustainable energy for the benefit of the environment and the community.
A key element to the project is the formation of a new charity, which will be a beneficiary of the hydro scheme in the form of receiving a proportion of surplus funds to be distributed to other local sustainability projects in the community and surrounding areas.
